This is the face of Jesus Christ. At first, I didn’t want to share it because it was so precious to me and I imagine to all of those who have witnessed it and read the story “Heaven is for Real” by Todd Burpo. When I saw this picture in the back of the book, my heart stopped for a second and it took my breath away. And then… I felt overcome with love for Jesus. Then I realized, I need to share the love and amazingness of Jesus! In “Heaven is for Real,” Todd Burpo explains his son, Colton’s, near death experience and encounter with Heaven and God and Jesus. Colton LOVED to describe what Jesus looked like; he said that Jesus was so colourful and He wore a purple sash and that His eyes were so pretty. So Todd, a pastor, and his wife, Sonja, were thoroughly intrigued by their son’s descriptions. They asked him SO many questions in the next 7 years and then proceeded to write a book. Whenever they came across a picture/drawing of Jesus Christ, as there are SO many different ones, they’d always ask “Colton, is this what Jesus looked like?” But he would always say no and then point out what was wrong. So anyways, this portrait. A young girl by the name of Akiane painted it at the age of 8. When she was four, God began talking to her and she SAW Him, really saw Him. She didn’t have a near death experience like Colton but she still experienced God; her description of Heaven and Jesus was very similar to Colton’s though. So, when Todd Burpo came across the story of Akiane and saw her portrait of Jesus he called Colton to come look at it, expecting this one to possibly be “wrong” too, he jokingly asked his son, “Buddy, what’s wrong with this one?” But Colton just stood there, speechless. Then he said, “Dad, that one’s right.” So of course when I read this I was like “WHOA! I HAVE TO SEE THIS PICTURE! I want to know what Jesus really looks like!” But I never put two and two together that I could simply look up the picture of the internet. But then, when I finished the book, at the back there was a photocopy of Akiane’s portrait of Jesus Christ. Like I said, it took my breath away. So I thought maybe, just maybe, you would all enjoy a glimpse at our amazing Saviour (according to Colton and Akiane); I know I was awestruck. I really reccomend reading this book, I loved it. And I love Jesus even more now.
